Try greeting someone with the back of your hand…awkward, right?  People tend to use other parts of their body to express language. Maybe that’s the reason they don’t worry naming all of the body parts with a “non-medical term”.  As an example, displaying our fingers could have different meanings; but when it comes to toes, there’s a lack of use, therefore, there’s a lack of meaning. Also, I guess that the palm is used because it is the most sensitive part, so we use palms to affection to others.
