One example that I have thought of is like standing in a lunch line and there are three pieces of pizza left.  I take two so that I leave one so that some other person can have that last piece of pizza.  This is a generalized other because you care what other people think.  Also, if you go out to eat with the group and you order something and then someone down the line orders the same thing and they find out you ordered the last one.  Then you will change your mind so that they can have what they wanted.  I would do that because I want to be a nice person.
