The way people use metaphors can be pretty interesting. Loved ones can be missing pieces ("My better half") or represent strong bonds ("Thick as thieves") or bright things ("She's the light of my life"), also relationships can be journeys ("Our love is a roller coaster ride"), and the list could go on. Metaphors can be very useful to persuade loved ones, to explain abstract ideas; therefore, we use a metaphor to talk about the world in both familiar and innovative ways.
