I think that it would be almost impossible to try to generalize only one specific way to look at metaphors. So maybe the easiest way would be to look up different opinions:

Relationships -
Relationships are cultivated like flowers or vegetables.  We see things as growing, flowering, producing.

Work  -

The test was a walk in the park.

Journey of discovery -

They say that scars are the roadmap to the soul.

Lack of control -

We are all shadows on the wall of time.

These are just some examples that I found in Google, but as I said before, each person has his or her different perspective of life.
